If you take away only one thing from this review, make it this: you will not be disappointed with this movie.
The paint by numbers script is oozing with apathy and the dialogue lifeless, which is made even worse due to the laughably awful performances.
“Wakefield” is an ode to discontent and resentment, a story of self reflection that’s as thought provoking as it is imperfect.
I think a good measure of a comedy is calculated by how many times it can make me laugh divided by the number of attempts. The majority of the jokes here made me giggle, and some made me roar. I laughed. And I laughed a lot.
Here is a comedy with something meaningful to say, a film that asks us all to stop being our own worst critics, to stop hating our real and imagined flaws, and to be kind to each other.
