Jason Mamoa’s charisma and amiability are thoroughly squandered here, which is probably the biggest of the film’s many disappointments.

Regardless of its clunky, corny, laughable midnight movie vibe, the eye-popping effects, imaginative costumes, and rowdy fun manage to make the film entertaining in spite of itself.
