The film recalls the heyday of the PG-appropriate adventures from the mid-80s.
Overall it’s not quite as great of a film as you’ve heard, but it rates an A+ when it comes to rousing action.
The film is flashy in all the right ways, its dreamy and dazzling costumes punctuated with spirited and elaborate staging and set pieces.
If you are a fan of science fiction and horror, you could do much worse, but you’d be better served by just re-watching “Aliens” instead.
If you’re hesitant to see “The Girl on the Train” because you fear that it will be too much like “Gone Girl,” you’re on to something.
