About Us

FANATICAL ABOUT FILM!

Movies are our religion and the theater our church. Our gods are named Tarantino, Anderson and Scorsese. We attend services at our local cinema and take our communion in the form of soda and popcorn. We offer up these reviews in hopes of pleasing our big screen deities.

The Screen Zealots team shares a passion for movies of all genres, and we hope you’ll find it interesting to read our critical viewpoints. Oftentimes we agree but as evidenced by many a late night discussion shared among film fans, it’s more fun when we don’t.

Please share your own comments on our reviews. We encourage all forms of respectful debate. We are, after all, “Fanatical About Film!”

MEET LOUISA:

Louisa has had a love of cinema from an early age, starting with her first theatrical experience (“Star Wars”) when she was barely 4 years old. Soon after, she would sneak downstairs at 6 am on Sunday mornings to quietly watch “At the Movies” with Siskel and Ebert.  Louisa was the strange 8 year old who asked for subscriptions to film magazines for Christmas and movie posters for her birthday.

Growing up in a small town meant limited theater options so she spent most of her childhood repeatedly watching a very large VHS tape library. Movies remained a central part of her life over the years, and her love affair with the movies blossomed in college where she earned a degree in Cinema Studies.

Movies are still Louisa’s passion and she enjoys films that span all genres. The Sundance Film Festival, TIFF, SXSW, Fantastic Fest, the Napa Valley Film Festival, and San Diego Comic Con are yearly trips for this self-proclaimed movie geek.

Louisa is a Tomatometer-approved critic for Rotten Tomatoes, a writer for ReelRundown, and a featured film reviewer for CherryPicks. She is the President of the Online Association of Female Film Critics, serves on the Board of the Critics Groups for Equality in Media (CGEM), and is a representative for the Critics Choice Association’s Women’s Committee.

Louisa is a proud member of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Las Vegas Film Critics Society, the Critics Choice Association, the Internet Film Critics Society (IFCS), Film Independent, and the Online Film & Television Association.

She is also a contributing “New Voices” writer for LeonardMaltin.com and a programming screener for the San Diego Film Festival. Louisa is a voter for the Independent Spirit Awards as well as the Critics Choice Awards. She founded Screen Zealots in 2016.

    1. Hi Guys–Love you blog and your reviews. For one, they have no spoilers, which turn my stomach. I was wondering: since there are two of you reviewing the movies, have you thought about having some sort of exchange of views when you part opinions? Or would that ignite an argument as bigger than a nuclear explosion? (jk).

  2. As Quentin Tarantino said in an interview when I wrote Kill bill I could not shut down my brain. So I decided to make 1 & 2. I am glad he could not shut down his brain. The Film is so good. How ever my favorite is Pulp Fiction.

  3. So you’re based in the US! WellI never! Mind if I drop in from time to time from Sydney Australia? My ‘backstory’ is similar to your own, being a lover of film my entire life. Now retired I can indulge my fancy. Off to see Sally Potter’s ‘The Party’ later today. Keep up the good work. Loved your Ten Commandments and only break the eighth (when the cinema is pretty empty).

  4. Hey! This is kind of off topic but I need some advice from an established blog. Is it very difficult to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick. I’m thinking about making my own but I’m not sure where to start. Do you have any tips or suggestions? Thank you|
